the Chazalettes Vermouth Rosso uses the Bava family’s own Barbera as the base wine
The average age of the wine when bottled is 35 years old (five more than required for VORS in Jerez) and
this was fermented with roughly 50% bunches in old concrete vats
One never tires of this wine
An excellent aperitif on its own
Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses 2023 domaine-alzipratu the Chazalettes Vermouth Rosso usesHalf of this was made in foudre, the other half in barrels of different sizes. The fruit is from Les Hauts, mostly, along with its neighbour La Macabre. There is nothing from Les Boutonniers this year. There is a savoury, mineral side to the nose. On the palate there is fresh citrus character, like oranges and limes, and a long, bright finish. This is a relatively easy drinker, not huge in the mouth, with some gentle apple and pear fruit.
